KTA Evidence Summary: Pedometer-based Interventions to Reduce Risk for and Manage Chronic Disease
• It is generally recognized that physical activity can contribute to the prevention and management of multiple chronic illnesses. • Physical inactivity among those at risk for or suffering from chronic disease is estimated to cost health systems billions of dollars annually and is linked to mortality. • Pedometers have recently gained recognition as a useful intervention in the promotion of ph...
متن کاملEvidence summaries: the evolution of a rapid review approach
BACKGROUND Rapid reviews have emerged as a streamlined approach to synthesizing evidence - typically for informing emergent decisions faced by decision makers in health care settings. Although there is growing use of rapid review 'methods', and proliferation of rapid review products, there is a dearth of published literature on rapid review methodology. This paper outlines our experience with r...
متن کاملKnowledge to action for solving complex problems: insights from a review of nine international cases.
INTRODUCTION Solving complex problems such as preventing chronic diseases introduces unique challenges for the creation and application of knowledge, or knowledge to action (KTA). KTA approaches that apply principles of systems thinking are thought to hold promise, but practical strategies for their application are not well understood. In this paper we report the results of a scan of systems ap...
متن کاملUsing the Knowledge to Action Framework in practice: a citation analysis and systematic review
BACKGROUND Conceptual frameworks are recommended as a way of applying theory to enhance implementation efforts. The Knowledge to Action (KTA) Framework was developed in Canada by Graham and colleagues in the 2000s, following a review of 31 planned action theories. The framework has two components: Knowledge Creation and an Action Cycle, each of which comprises multiple phases. This review sough...
متن کاملNonlinear refraction of undoped and Fe-doped KTiOAsO4 crystals in the femtosecond regime
The third-order optical nonlinearities in undoped and Fe-doped KTA crystals have been measured using the Z-scan technique with femtosecond pulses at 780-nm wavelength. The nonlinear refractive index is determined to be 1.7×10−15 cm2/W and 0, 9×10−15 cm2/W for undoped and Fe-doped KTA, respectively. No two-photon absorption occurs in these crystals. It is shown that doping with Fe2O3 could weake...
